February 3rd

Islanders Dominate
Comox

The Islanders played Comox on February 3rd. They opened hard with Keegan Young scoring the first two goals of the night. Kerry Park then took a 4 minute double minor for a penalty causing injury, but managed to kill it off successfully. The Islanders played dominant hockey for the entire period. With 5 mintues left in the period, Grant scored his first goal of the night with a top corner shot from the hashmarks, assisted by Bertuzzie and Botcher. Oliphant made a good play on a Comox two on one, and then Marshall tipped in a slapshot from Botcher. With two minutes left in the period, Comox gained a two man advantage, and with just five seconds left in the period Comox scored their first goal of the night.

The second period opened with penalties for Comox. The Islanders received a two man advantage, but the Comox penalty killing unit did a good job and kept the puck out of their net. The Islanders had huge chances but the Comox goalie closed the door. Eight minutes in, the Islanders scored their fifth goal of the night as Keegan Young tallied his third of the night on the power play. Kerry Park's sixth goal was on a shot from the blueline by Bertuzzie. Comox continued to receive penalties. Botcher then made a great defensive play on a Comox breakaway. The Isladers pulled farther ahead with two more goals, Bertuzzie with his second of the night, and Young with his fourth. Then there was a great fight between Nugent and #24 on the Comox team. It was a good fight that lasted a long time untill Nugent took the Comox player down to the ice. Kerry Park scored their ninth on a beautiful break in, where Grant scored his second of the night, assisted by Young and Bertuzzie. Kerry Park finished the period leading 9-1.

Comox opened the third period with their second goal of the night. The Islanders then began dominating 5 on 5 hockey to the degree that it seemed they had a man advantage. Comox then picked up their rate of play and the play became more balanced. The Islanders started taking penalties, until Keifer Smily was forced to make a big save. With eight minutes left in the game, Mike Posey picked up the Islanders' tenth goal on a pass when he exited the penalty box. Both teams continued taking penalties and with four minutes left in the game Comox scored their third and final goal. The Islanders kept up a huge amount of pressure with multiple chances in the last minute, but failed to score again. Kerry Park won the game 11-3.
