Islanders Tenacious
On January 20th the Kerry Park Islanders played the Peninsula Panthers. In the first minutes of the game both teams took penalties, and although there was good end to end play, no goals were scored. With just over 5 minutes left in the 1st period, a Peninsula player was ejected for checking from behind, and the Islanders went on a two man advantage after another Panther penalty. The teams then each went down by two players allowing for some free wheeling 3 on 3. However, the second period ended with the Islanders on the penalty kill and no goals being scored.

Three minutes later, the Islanders got their second, as Twan tipped in a shot from Greco. The period continued with the Islanders pressing the Panthers. The Islanders went on a two man advantage for the last two minutes of the second and scored with 56 seconds left in the period as Keegan Young sent a beautiful cross ice pass to Mike Posey, who knocked it in.
A second Peninsula player was ejected for hitting from behind at the start of the third period, and Kerry Park had lots of shots on the resulting power play. four and a half minutes in, Mike Posey scored his second of the night as he beat a Panther's player on the blue line and slipped the puck in through the goalie’s five hole. It was an unassisted shorthand goal. Neil Doherty got into a fight with a Peninsula player, and the Panthers player skated off the ice much worse for wear. The Panther's goalie kept their net empty as he stopped three great chances for the Islanders. Twan absolutely crushed a Peninsula player against the half boards, giving the crowd a chance to cheer. With just under four minutes left in the game, Peters slipped a backhand through the Panther goalie’s legs after an outside rush. With only one minute twenty one seconds left in the game, Wayne Twan knocked another goal in for the Islanders, and although Peninsula had a 5 on 3 for the last twenty two seconds, they did not manage a single shot.
