Islanders Win Oceanside Series in OT

            Game 7 of the Kerry Park, Oceanside series was played on March 17th. Mike Posey walked away the hero of the game, and the Islanders with the win. After a hard fought series the Islanders went into Saturday’s game determined to walk away with victory. The first period went by with Kerry Park controlling play and keeping pressure on the Generals. Oceanside got the first goal of the game on a shorthanded breakaway that got past Young. The Islanders responded before the period ended as Posey sent the puck to the front of the net, and Tony Bertuzzie knocked in a rebound.
 
            Young opened the second period with a huge save as he did the splits across the crease to keep the game tied. The Islanders began throwing the hits, and drove to the General’s net at every opportunity. The Islanders got their second goal of the game in the middle of the period. Twan sent a pass to Shillito from the corner and Shillito knocked the puck in on the post.  The Generals responded a minute later as a pass from behind the net gets past Young. The Islanders kept taking the game to the Generals, but didn’t manage to get past their goalies glove.
 
            Oceanside started the third period with a vengeance, and for thirty seconds they dominated play. The Islanders began taking more control, and they Oceanside goalie was forced to take a storm of shots before the puck was cleared. Play began going end to end, as both teams were able to clear the puck and force shots on the other net. In the later half of the period Young was the brick wall the Islanders needed, and stopped shot after shot by the Oceanside forwards. Oceanside forced the Islanders to make desperate plays to keep the puck out of their net, but couldn’t get past Young. Both teams were fighting to continue their seasons, and their place at the provincials. Despite the efforts to score the game went into overtime.

            The Islanders took control of overtime early, and for the first 2 minutes Young didn’t face a shot. The Islanders pounded shots at the Oceanside net, trying to get the series’ winning goal. 3 minutes in Bryce Baloune came off the bench and stopped an Oceanside breakaway, then sent the puck back down to the Oceanside end. Young was called on to make two saves as the Generals took control of the puck. Mike Posey became the hero of the game as he knocked in the puck on a rebound in front of the General’s net, and scored the series’ winning goal for Kerry Park.
