Islanders Earn Hard
Fought Win

On Saturday November 18th the Islanders faced the Victoria Cougars in their second consecutive home meeting and they were determined to win after losing to the cougars twice earlier in the season. The Cougars opened up the game fast, scoring two early goals. However, the Islanders came to life and took control of the game for the remainder of the period. Just after the halfway mark of the first period, the Islanders started a 5 goal streak with Adrian Jack scoring twice, and Bertuzzie picking up 3 assists. After being down two goals, the Islanders came out of the first period leading 5-2.

The second period started with a quick pace and after fierce back and forth play, the Cougars managed to snag two goals. As the physical aspect of the game picked up, Kerry Park once again took the game to the Cougars resulting in a Kevin Shillito goal that sent the Islanders to the dressing room with a 6-4 lead.

Both teams put in huge efforts in the third period. The Islanders struck first as Wayne Twan hit the top shelf with a slap shot. One minute later, Keegan Young scored a short handed goal on a breakaway. The play continued, getting faster and faster until Victoria scored 2 goals in 30 seconds just before the halfway mark of the period. The Islanders didn’t lose their cool and kept playing good hockey for the remainder of the game to hold the Cougars offense at bay. The Islanders won the game 8-6 and now hold first place in the league standing for the VIJHL.
