Islanders Solid Against Saanich Braves
On Saturday November the 4th your Kerry Park Islanders played their first home game of the month against the Saanich Braves. The Islanders killed off a penalty early on and there was good end to end play for the majority of the period. Just past the halfway mark in the period, Mike Posey put the first goal on the score board, assisted by Greco and Twan. Three minutes later Jamieson added another goal for the Islanders, also assisted by Twan. Kerry Park came out of the first period leading 2-0.
Early in the second period, Matt Young made a huge save on a Saanich breakaway and then Jordan Grant added a third goal to the Islanders tally. Saanich retaliated a minute later with a goal of their own, but Kerry Park maintained control of the game. Kerry Park’s newest player, Bertuzzie, scored a goal of his own, giving Greco his third assist of the night. Saanich scored again, and the game became increasingly rough towards the end of the period. The second period ended with the Isles leading 4-2.
Early in the third period, Saanich was awarded a penalty shot as their player was hauled down on a breakaway. Matt Young once again proved himself, as he made an incredible save to keep Kerry Park in control. Despite all of the efforts made by Kerry Park, Saanich scored just before the halfway mark of the period. At this point the game took an ugly turn as Trevor Greco was hit from behind in front of the Saanich net and Neil Doherty skated from the blue line to pummel Greco’s attacker. Neil was given a game misconduct for his actions and Greco was mysteriously thrown out as well. The officials ignored the hit on Greco and the Islanders were awarded a five minute major penalty plus a double minor. The penalty kill that followed was a hard fought battle, with the Islanders killing off a four minute five on three. To add to this triumph, Travis Peters powered his way through the entire Saanich team and got an unassisted goal with just over five minutes left in the game. The Braves followed this with a goal of their own a minute later, but Wayne Twan sealed the deal by scoring a goal with two minutes remaining. The Islanders played out the remainder of the game with few issues and won the game 6-4.
