Islanders Earn Fifth Straight Win

Peninsula and the Islanders held a fierce rivalry last season, and from all the fans saw on Saturday this rivalry will continue. The Islanders didn’t waste any time in taking the lead, and before Peninsula could react they had taken control. Mike Posey got the first goal of the game on the power play. Keegan Young and Curtis Steacy also found the net to bring the Islanders to a 3-0 lead.  Peninsula struck back making it 3 to 1 just before the halfway mark of the first. Just past the ten minute mark of the period, with the Islanders on a power play, a line brawl broke out involving all players on the ice. Eleven players were ejected from in the game including both goaltenders, but this didn’t shake the Islanders from their task. Kerry Park fought through many penalties, and although the defense put in a huge effort Peninsula managed to gain ground with the period ending with the Islanders leading 3-2.

The plague of penalties lasted into the second period. The Islanders were faced with the challenge of fighting two two man advantages in favor of the Panthers. Kerry Park’s defense didn’t shy from their task and held the panthers back. Adrian Jack padded the Islanders lead with a blast from the point late in the second taking 4-2 lead to the dressing room.

With shorter benches, the third was a hard working period for both teams. Fewer penalties were called and Keegan Young added another goal to take the Islanders lead to 5-2. Peninsula got a mid period power play goal and drew close with another in the dieing minutes of the game. Kerry Park controlled play killing the remaining time on the clock and securing their fifth consecutive victory in the 2006/2007 regular season.
